Tomato ‘Whippersnapper’ Lycopersicon lycopersicum
Whippersnapper is a little sprinter. I keep it in a pot outsiden, and still it ripens before the tomatoes in the greenhouse. It’s a small bushtomato, no trimming of sideshoots, just let it grow, over the edge of the pot, or support it with some twigs. I allways grow 3-9 plants in the same pot, close together, to let them grow as one compact bush. Tomatoes are pinkish red, taste wonderfull in warm weather, rather dull in cold grey weather. It gives a huge harvest over a short period. It’s a great season starter.

You get your tomatoes early!

That is early. I have lots of tomatoes that look close, but none are ripe yet. I’d say I’m at least a week away from a ripe tomato, if not longer.

I sowed my tomatoes in mid march. I think it’s a few weeks earlier than I usually have tomatoes, but weather has smiled in may and first half og june, could be an explanation.
I think the next two varieties will start next week.

I am way behind you guys in the north. Maybe a cherry or two will ripen this week but my tomatoes are a long way off still. A very cold may is what did it for us I think. I sowed all my tomatoes mid March and set out early May.

Hi,
where do you buy the seeds?
I live in a colder climate, in Finland, and am VERY interested!

Hello Anne N,
You can buy this tomato from Örtagårdens Plantskola
http://www.ortagarden.com
I had my seeds from internet seed exchange. You can find some places with exchange of seeds here:

Thank you so much, I am going shopping!
Now, if someone could tell me where to buy Polar Baby tomato seeds, too, my life would be perfect, tomato-seed-wise at least!
But, there´s always the next year if I cannot find them this year!

Great looking tomatoes! What have you been using for pest control? I need to get rid of the aphid problem in my tomato garden. So far, I found Safer Brand’s Tomato and Vegetable Insect Killer. It’s certified organic and gentle on tomatoes. Thanks.

For aphids I spray with water. A strong spray will wash the off the plant. That’s how I do on roses. I’ve never had aphids on my tomatoes.

Thank you so much, my first ever Whippersnappers from Örtagarden seeds are growing beautifully!
I am really looking forward to them, I am always on the lookout for an early tomato that tastes good, as I live in Finland!
BTW I sometimes have aphids in my tomatoes, I just remove them with a tissue or even with my hands. Not a big problem at all!
We seem to have very few lady-bugs over here some years, I think the big field-owners nearby use pesticides that kill them, too. Baaad.
